Commissioning and Notarizing Services
I offer free commissioning and notary services for law students attending an Ontario law school. They include:
Commissioning an affidavit or declaration that requires you to swear or affirm before a commissioner of oaths (Note: any lawyer or paralegal can do this);
Creating a true copy of a document; and
Notarizing a signature (this entails me verifying your identity, witnessing your signature, and applying my seal). This is often required by documents from foreign jurisdictions who require that a notary (as opposed to a commissioner of oaths) witness your signature.
Please ensure that you know what service you need done and what requirements the entity you will be submitting the document to requires. I cannot provide you with legal advice about any of that.
I am located near King Station in Downtown Toronto. If you are asking me to commission a document or notarize your signature, please bring your document WITHOUT having dated and signed it. You will also need to bring government issued photo identification with you for me to verify your identity. Please mark any spots that I will need to date and sign beforehand.
Please note that any costs associated with this (ie. if you require mailing and photocopying) will need to be covered by you. All of the services above are also subject to reasonable limitations (please don’t bring stacks of documents to me or use this service for benefit of another business).
I also don’t draft affidavits or do anything else that would be understood as providing legal services or legal advice.
